#42 MIKE FORD Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks
This buck shot by Mike Ford is one of those bucks which would have benefited from the water displacement scoring system. Fill up a tub to the brim, dunk the antlers into the tub and measure how much water is displaced. This buck is massive all the way to the tips, so it would have done very well. Some say that this kind of system is the truest measure of scoring. Measure how much antler the deer grows, and that's it. No subjective classifications with deductions and symmetry.
Anyway, this buck is awesome, no matter how it is scored. Mike came to Santa Rosa Island with his life-long friend Cary Weldon. Since Wes Kent knew these guys prior to any of them got involved with MUM, he guided them every time they came out there. That partnership proved very fruitful. In 2000, Cary shot a Top 100 buck with Mike and Wes (#85). Over the years they also both shot some fabulous 300+ inch Roosevelt elk bulls.
