The black bear hunting on the Stover Ranch is nothing but phenomenal. We hunt these bears much like the deer, using spot-and-stalk and still hunting techniques for them-- there are that many bears here! On average we see 2-5 bears on each hunting day. This also allows us to pick and choose what bears to pursue.  We have never used dogs to pursue them, so the new law that went into effect in California has no impact on this bear hunting adventure. 

On the Stover Ranch, we have a couple thousand acres of oak woodlands while the surrounding properties are predominantly forest habitat. When the acorns begin dropping, bears come from all over to feast on this mast crop. Luckily, the acorn season coincides with bear and deer seasons. We curtail the season around Nov. 10 because that's when the bear populations have begun depleting the acorn crop and start seeking fish in the nearby rivers. So while the season extends to the end of the year, the best opportunities on the ranch is between late August and early November.  We 3 opportunities to hunt bear on Stover Ranch- an archery hunt, peak season hunt, and a late season hunt.

Many of our hunts here are combination hunts that include both a black bear and a Columbian Blacktail. For this unique hunt, the cost for this 5 day hunt is $6,500. Except for these combo hunts, the bear hunts are 3 days and are guided on a 2x1 basis.
